Cinderella Unni- episode 1-2

4 Apr

We knew we would love this drama, as soon as we saw all that angst in the promo shots-and we weren’t disappointed- it was oh so good!

-We LOVE Moon Geun Young as Eun Jo, how good is she- seriously! She plays a character that is so emotionally broken, a girl that has obviously suffered and had to make the best out of a really shit situation. We were discussing it after we watched the show; that if Moon’s character had been played a little bit more ‘hard done’ and angry, she may have come across as unsympathetic, but Moon plays her sooo well- she has a flicker in her eye, or a body gesture that reveals vulnerability and it works so well because you get her and understand why she is the way she is.

-The Cinderella of the story is played by Seo Woo, most recently of Tamna the Island. We watched a MV for Tamna the Island, which was soooo good and we were so ready to watch that drama, but honestly we don’t think we can stand watching Seo Woo play an overly happy and enthusiastic character in another drama.  In Cinderella Unni, her character in many ways is one that should be pitied, she longs for a mother so much that she reverts back to a 7 year old child in front of Eun Jo’s mother- who plays her and Cinderella’s dad like chumps. As a person Seo Woo’s character Hyo Sun is innocent and tries her best to invite her new family with open arms- we wonder what will be the breaking point for her character, which changes everything? Jealousy, the guy, her father or all of the above? We have a feeling that Seo Woo will play crazy really well.

-The Prince charming of the story is played by Chun Jung Myung, who is great as the love interest.  As soon as Hong Ki Hoon saw Eun Jo you knew he was hooked- that look could easily be described as love at first sight. We also like his earnest look, not traditionally handsome in our opinion but he’s got those smiling eyes and warm presence, just what our leading lady needs. There are a lot of parallels between his character and Moon’s Eun Jo. Both of them are outsiders, rejected by family and have had to overcome hardship in one way or another. We’re definitely looking forward to seeing their relationship develop over the course of the drama.

– Other mentions: We love Eun Jo’s mother Song Kang Sook played so well by Lee Mi Sook. She is good, oh so good- how she manipulated her way into that family- impressive is an understatement. Just the way she acted and how she dazzled Hyo Sun’s father was brilliant. You know a good quality show, when the whole cast are well written and can seriously act, rather than having the OTP carrying the  cast like other dramas.

– Our favourite scene- Of course it was with Eun Jo (Moon is too good as the lead- love her). We loved the scene where she explained why she had to study, why she had to learn as much as she could… because she might not get a chance later. We adored how serious she was. You could see so much tormented angst in her eyes, the years of hardship and missed opportunity clearly visible in her expression.  We’re defiantly going to enjoy rooting for this leading lady!

Can’t wait till next week.
